The Lurgy

No, it’s not the title of a new book of mine.  It’s what I’ve got.  And in fact my whole family have it apart from my daughter, who’s skipping around as bright as ever.  We’ve got fevers, coughing fits and hot-and-cold sweats.  And suffering from this, yesterday I made the journey to London for a frantic series of meetings with my agents Howard Morhaim (over from New York) and Caspian Dennis, as well as my lovely UK publishers Allison & Busby.  It was a long hard day – and I didn’t have time to meet everyone I’d have liked! – but I’m glad I made the trip … especially as I normally only see Howard and Caspian once each year.

Had some news about an exciting new book deal!  Watch this space for an announcement soon.

On the train home, feeling very rough, I resolved to have a kip.  Imagine my delight when I realised I was sitting next to a woman with a 6 month old baby, and a family of 2 parents and 4 kids on their way home from a visit to Lapland.  Oh well …. they were all very pleasant, and I listened, soaking up the conversations … it’s all research, you know.

And following news about the drastic shake-ups at Random House and Simon & Schuster yesterday, I just keep on keeping on.  As a writer it’d be easy to panic, but panic leads to stress, and that’d lead to less writing getting done.  I’m working on fantasy novels, collaborations, tie in novels, a crime novel, YA novels, screenplays, a TV series pitch …. and other things.  And for me, that’s the only way to be.  Keep your head down, and keep on on writing.

This weekend, my mate Mark Morris is coming to stay.  I hope he likes dogs, because Blu has grown into a monster!
