Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends.

News at home: rumours abound that Borders has gone into administration. If so, that’s another high street bookshop that’s gone, and in these harsh times that can only be bad news for the UK book industry. Waterstone’s remains standing on its own … and being alone can’t be a good thing. We need competition.

Who knows, maybe there’ll be a rescue package.  The next day or two will tell.

UPDATE: Borders not yet in administration, it seems. Check here.

UPDATE 2: jumped the gun a bit…

Seemingly Borders has gone into liquidation. It was just reported on the radio (Radio 4 – 5pm, Thursday 26 Nov) anyway.
