Tits

April 8th, 2004 • Posted in News |

I was really pleased reading the news the other day when I saw that Alanis Morissette had protested against America’s increasingly radical censorship laws by stripping off on stage. Specifically she was making a statement about the ridiculous reaction Janet Jackson’s tit caused when she popped it out at the Superbowl. Good on yer! I thought. Nice one! And naturally, I sought out pictures (trying not to listen to that voice in my head: ‘Her last album wasn’t that good, she needs the publicity, new album soon, publicity, publicity …’)

And then the truth revealed itself. She wasn’t actually naked … she had on a full-body stocking. One designed to just make her look naked.

Has PC gone so far that, even to protest against it, you have to be PC in doing so? Isn’t this like going on hunger stirke but gobbling Mars Bars when no one’s looking? Or going on strike from work and taking work home to do because, well, otherwise you’ll have to catch up when you go back? Where’s everyone’s sense of rebellion, of individuality? I wanted to see Morissette’s tits, her ass, her bush. I wanted her naked up there, bending over, saying ‘this is me, I look good, take a long look, I don’t give a shit!’ But no, she only pretended at nakedness. Just like some people nowadays only pretend at having an opinion or original thought, just in case they offend someone.

Of course, if she HAD actually been naked, it wouldn’t have been so well covered by the state-controlled media. But no … that’s just me being cynical.

Shame that, to protest against the furore caused by a single revealed tit, she became one herself.
