THE TERROR
I’ve been a fan of Dan Simmons since I read that stunning opening sentence to HYPERION maybe eighteen years ago. He’s something of an inspiration, writing whatever his heart chooses – horror, science fiction, crime, suspense, historical novels – and anything he writes is always gripping and fascinating. He’s one of those people – every writer can name a few – who makes me wonder why I bother … but who also fills me with a burning urge to get back to the keyboard.
Last night I finished his latest novel THE TERROR. It’s taken me a long time to read – it was a hell of a big book – but I treasured every page. And it’s one of his best, no doubt about it. It’s beautiful, painful, heartbreaking and challenging, and he’s created something masterful. Make sure you buy it. Instantly.
