British Fantasy Awards nominations

June 27th, 2011 • Posted in Book News |

I’m thrilled to announce that I have two books on the British Fantasy Awards shortlist this year.  First is The Thief of Broken Toys, published by those splendid folks at CZP, nominated for Best Novella.  You can also see a great review for this book here.  It was also nominated for a Shirley Jackson Award, and I’ll hear the result of that soon direct from the presentations at Readercon.

The second nomination is for Last Exit for the Lost, my huge collection published by Cemetery Dance.

I’m delighted at being shortlisted again for the British Fantasy Awards.  It always makes FantasyCon weekend that much more enjoyable, and a little more nerve-jangling.

Shirley Jackson Award nomination

I’m thrilled to hear that my novella The Thief of Broken Toys has been nominated for a Shirley Jackson Award.  This is a novella I’m very proud of, and it’s great to see it recognised for this prestigious award.  It’s also on the long-list for a British Fantasy Award.

Go here to check out the rest of the nominations and to find out more about the awards.

On the web…

A couple of nice mentions I wanted to draw your attention to.  First, award-winning horror writer Brian Keene has posted his Top Ten Books of 2010, and The Thief of Broken Toys is in there.

And here’s a nice review of my old collection, Fears Unnamed.

I’m back in the saddle following the holidays, working hard on a brand new fantasy novel for Orbit in the UK (which has a working title that will almost certainly change, so I won’t mention it), and a couple of other projects that are going to slip into top gear soon.

Just bought Backspacer by Pearl Jam … great album.

And I’m also reading a very excellent novel in manuscript form, which I’ll talk about a bit more when I’ve finished.

Another wonderful THIEF review

September 13th, 2010 • Posted in Reviews & Interviews |

Here’s another wonderful review for my novella The Thief of Broken Toys. I’m so delighted that so many people are enjoying this story. It was a difficult one to write – as most of the good ones are – and it’s something I’m intensely proud of.

CZP Publications

August 27th, 2010 • Posted in Random Stuff |

CZP PUBLICATIONS are alive and well, and still publishing some of the best books by any indie press, anywhere.

Because of the problems over at Leisure Books, a few rumours arose that CZP were also having difficulties (Leisure used to sponsor the ChiZine website, but don’t any more).  These rumours are untrue.

CZP published my recent novella The Thief of Broken Toys, and they did such a fine job with it that I’d love to work with them again.  Hope that’ll happen sometime in the future.   Meanwhile, visit their website to check out their back catalogue, and to see some of the exciting projects they have in the works.

Some new reviews …

Here’s a nice review of The Thief of Broken Toys from UK writer Wayne Simmons.

And a scorcher for The Chamber of Ten.

Taking a ten day break from posting here now (What, you say, not as if you do it regularly anyway!) As a man once said, I’ll be back.

New Interview

June 10th, 2010 • Posted in Random Stuff, Reviews & Interviews |

Here’s a great new interview I’ve just done with books.torontoist.com, check it out.  it’s concerning The Thief of Broken Toys.

I hope to see you at Alt.Fiction in Derby on Saturday, I’m on a dark fantasy panel at 11am, and a horror panel at 2pm.  Feel free to come along and ask questions, heckle, and throw rotten fruit.  And if the venue is serving decent beer, mine’s a real ale.

Arriving in threes

June 3rd, 2010 • Posted in Book News |

No new books for a couple of months, then three turn up together.  My postman must love me.  Parcels, packages and boxes, I do more for his strength-building than any gym membership.

I’ve already told you about LAST EXIT FOR THE LOST.  Yesterday’s two new additions were:

The hardback of THE THIEF OF BROKEN TOYS, an officially recognised Beautiful Object in the world of books.  If you didn’t get your pre-order in for this one … watch the second hand market.  It’s a gorgeous product yet again from the brilliant CZP Publications.  Nice.   And remember, paperback and Kindle editions are still available.

The second arrival yesterday was my brand new original 30 Days of Night novel, FEAR OF THE DARK.  This one, based in the 30 Days of Night universe, is a mad vampire novel set in good old London, taking in archaeological digs, the British Museum, and a very strange guardian angel.  It was fun to write, and I’m sure it’ll be fun to read as well.

More new books due very soon, watch this space for info.

Lebbon (Bar None) superbly captures the thoughts and feelings of a man whose misery so unhinges him that an encounter with the uncanny is unavoidable (Publishers Weekly)

Together with his masterfully nuanced prose, the surprising twist Lebbon springs on readers at the climax make this one of his most powerful works to date. (Booklist)
