Thanks so much for your interest and enthusiasm.   I just wish Humdrumming could have printed more copies before going under …

Start checking out eBay soon, I guess.

The Reach of Children – buy it here!

November 22nd, 2008 • Posted in Book News |

Publication date September 2008

Due to the publisher Humdrumming’s recent demise, this Limited Edition Hardback is now available direct from the author. Send me an email if you’re interested: lebbon1984(at)yahoo(dot)com

Publication price was £25.00, but I’m selling for:

  • UK – £16.00 (this includes postage)
  • USA – $32.00 (this includes air mail postage)
  • Elsewhere – email for details

I’d prefer Paypal, but I’ll take UK cheques as well (no US cheques, sorry). Just email for details.

This is set to become the rarest of my books ever published. Humdrumming only printed 150 copies, and I have the majority of those in my possession.

It comes with dust cover (see image), separate artwork on the hardcover, a wonderful introduction by Michael Marshall Smith, and and Afterword by me.  Here’s a brief blurb about the book:

Daniel is ten years old when his mother dies. She dies young, and with so much left to give. He does not understand. He cannot let her go.

After the funeral, his father begins talking to a large wooden box that suddenly appears beneath his bed. And when Daniel whispers to the box one day when his father goes out … it answers back.

It’s a voice he does not know. But this voice knows so much.

This is one of the best things I’ve ever written, and I’m upset at what’s happened to the novella.  I desperately want people to read this book … so if you’re interested, please do contact me.  There are no current plans for any future print publication of the novella, so this is going to be an ultra-rare edition.

Don’t just take my word for it …

“Lebbon has written one of the best and most emotionally convincing stories about death that I have ever read” – Michael Marshall Smith

“…a precisely written and moving account of love and redemption” – Black Static

“…emotional and thought-provoking…” – Interzone

“With The Reach of Children, (Lebbon) has exceeded even his former astounding works.” – Horror World

“This is an important book, it will win things.  This is a given. More importantly though – and I honestly think Lebbon would share my opinion on this – this is a book that people will get evangelical about.  They will insist their friends read it.  They will get increasingly frustrated by people who claim to have not had the time or the money.” – The Hub

Interzone goodness

November 21st, 2008 • Posted in Reviews & Interviews |

In the latest edition of the excellent Interzone magazine there’s a small interview with me, and fine reviews of Fallen, The Everlasting and The Reach of Children.  Interzone comes from TTA Press, the same folks who publish Black Static and Crimewave, and it’s essential viewing for any science fiction or fantasy fan.

Talking of The Reach of Children, I’ll soon be announcing how you can buy this book direct from me at much a reduced cost.  Watch this spot today or tomorrow for details.

Humdrumming, farewell

November 11th, 2008 • Posted in Book News |

As it’s public knowledge now, I can talk about the fact that Humdrumming have gone into receivership.   I’ve been getting a flood of emails from people who’ve ordered THE REACH OF CHILDREN through them, and at the moment it seems that the company are shipping anything pre-ordered.  However, I’m not sure of the status of the Very Special Edition, though I’m pretty certain that this was never manufactured.

It’s a sad state of affairs, and it’s painful and messy for everyone involved.  Everyone emerges from something like this having lost out … apart from the lawyers brought in the clear up the mess, I suspect.

THE REACH OF CHILDREN is probably one of the best things I’ve ever written.  Considering so few copies are out there, I’ve had many emails telling me that, and that’s heartening.  What’s depressing is that the first print run was very low – way below the contracted print run – and this is a book I want available for people to read.

It will appear again in one form or another, and I’m hoping to have news on that very soon.  So watch this space.

Meanwhile, any queries about invoices or money owed or owing, email David Chappell (at the company dealing with Humdrumming’s affairs): DavidChappellGCP@aol.com

Black Static

October 23rd, 2008 • Posted in Reviews & Interviews |

After yesterday’s near bunny-murder, it was a great surprise this morning to receive the new issue of Black Static magazine, with an extensive review section, a quick interview and a ‘facts’ bit all about yours truly.  The reviews cover The Reach of Children, and the UK releases of The Everlasting and Fallen, while the interview talks a little about all three.

Each review, I’m delighted to say, is very positive indeed.

Now then, if you don’t buy Black Static already, you really should.  It publishes some of the best genre fiction around, has some fascinating columns from the likes of Christopher Fowler, Stephen Volk and Mike O’Driscoll, DVD reviews by Tony Lee, and Peter Tennant provides an always in-depth and perceptive reviews section.  Definitely one of the best magazines out there, so pop along to the website and place your order.  I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.  In fact, if you are disappointed, I vow to drink a pint of beer.

Go there. It’s a good place, and you will be welcomed.

Zombies, and Children

October 19th, 2008 • Posted in Book News |

If they found a way to record or film dreams, last night I’d have made the best zombie movie ever.  Forget Dawn of the Dead, Night of the Living Dead, 28 Days Later, et al … my dreams beat them all hands down.  At one point I was a father fleeing through a huge hotel with his son, doing his best to escape from the zombie plague rising quickly from the lower floors; then I was a crack female soldier with a high-powered rifle shooting zombies from the top of a long flight of stairs; then I was in a titty bar that was suddenly flooded with zombies.  Even some of the titties were scary.  Ah yes, sometimes, I love being a horror writer.

And talking of horror writing, my new novella THE REACH OF CHILDREN is available now.  Click through to check out the details, a couple of reviews and a brief synopsis.  One of the best things I’ve ever written, I think, and initial reaction is very positive indeed.  Give it a try, let me know what you think ….

New Books Galore!

September 26th, 2008 • Posted in Book News |

Okay, loads of news to catch up on, so I’m going to do so in a few posts over the next few days. Fantasycon was last weekend – I’ll write a more in depth report on that over the weekend – and I had two book launches there, launching three books in total.

The first was on Friday night for my new novella THE REACH OF CHILDREN. It looks utterly fabulous, as you can see here, and there are a few reviews incoming over the next few weeks. Mike Marshall Smith, who wrote the wonderful introduction, says:

Lebbon has written one of the best and most emotionally convincing stories about death that I have ever read

.

This is one of the most personal stories I’ve ever written, and I’m actually quite nervous that it’s out there now … there’s so much about me here, and stuff I’ve gone through, that it feels as if I’ve offered something private up for view. But I’ve also found the writing of the novella very satisfying and rewarding, and I hope you enjoy it. If you’re interested, check out the details here.

Also launched at Fantasycon, my two books from Allison & Busby, FALLEN and THE EVERLASTING. FALLEN just had a great review in the latest issue of SFX magazine, giving it 4 out of 5 and saying:

If Lebbon continues writing the Noreela stories to this high standard, the series could be as exciting as George R. R. Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire novels – definitely a series to watch.

Which is nice.

More postings here over the next few days, including:
Death Magnetic
More horror books
Hay on Wye, and why I must never go there again
Chris Golden, and why he must never come here again
Fantasycon, or The Zoo that is Nottingham
