Two years ago today was my first day working as a full-time writer. Leaving work to write for a living was a big decision, but definitely one of the best I’ve ever made, and through the downs as well as the ups I haven’t regretted it for a moment. It seems a lot longer than two years ago that I last left Monmouthshire County Council’s dodgy old building (it’s effectively falling down), and looking at the amount I’ve written since then, perhaps there has been a time-warp thingy going on somewhere. Here’s a rough list:
As well as those novels and novellas I’ve done several short stories, two screenplays (The Everlasting and The Dregs), and plenty of other stuff. It does make me wonder how the hell I wrote so much when I was working, but the fact that I’m still working just as hard after two years is great. I’ve still got plenty of work on … and a big THANKS is due to you discerning readers who continue to buy my books!
And on it goes …! I wrote a novelette this weekend for a US market (sending it to the editor for consideration today), brainstormed a new screenplay with a good friend of mine, and this week it’s back to the Yukon to finish off book one of the Jack London series.
Many more announcements coming soon, including a new short story option. So please do keep popping by, and in another year I hope the above list will be much, much longer.

In the latest edition of the excellent Interzone magazine there’s a small interview with me, and fine reviews of Fallen, The Everlasting and The Reach of Children. Interzone comes from TTA Press, the same folks who publish Black Static and Crimewave, and it’s essential viewing for any science fiction or fantasy fan.
Talking of The Reach of Children, I’ll soon be announcing how you can buy this book direct from me at much a reduced cost. Watch this spot today or tomorrow for details.

After yesterday’s near bunny-murder, it was a great surprise this morning to receive the new issue of Black Static magazine, with an extensive review section, a quick interview and a ‘facts’ bit all about yours truly. The reviews cover The Reach of Children, and the UK releases of The Everlasting and Fallen, while the interview talks a little about all three.
Each review, I’m delighted to say, is very positive indeed.
Now then, if you don’t buy Black Static already, you really should. It publishes some of the best genre fiction around, has some fascinating columns from the likes of Christopher Fowler, Stephen Volk and Mike O’Driscoll, DVD reviews by Tony Lee, and Peter Tennant provides an always in-depth and perceptive reviews section. Definitely one of the best magazines out there, so pop along to the website and place your order. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed. In fact, if you are disappointed, I vow to drink a pint of beer.
Go there. It’s a good place, and you will be welcomed.

Okay, loads of news to catch up on, so I’m going to do so in a few posts over the next few days. Fantasycon was last weekend – I’ll write a more in depth report on that over the weekend – and I had two book launches there, launching three books in total.
The first was on Friday night for my new novella THE REACH OF CHILDREN. It looks utterly fabulous, as you can see here, and there are a few reviews incoming over the next few weeks. Mike Marshall Smith, who wrote the wonderful introduction, says:
Lebbon has written one of the best and most emotionally convincing stories about death that I have ever read
.
This is one of the most personal stories I’ve ever written, and I’m actually quite nervous that it’s out there now … there’s so much about me here, and stuff I’ve gone through, that it feels as if I’ve offered something private up for view. But I’ve also found the writing of the novella very satisfying and rewarding, and I hope you enjoy it. If you’re interested, check out the details here.
Also launched at Fantasycon, my two books from Allison & Busby, FALLEN and THE EVERLASTING. FALLEN just had a great review in the latest issue of SFX magazine, giving it 4 out of 5 and saying:
If Lebbon continues writing the Noreela stories to this high standard, the series could be as exciting as George R. R. Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire novels – definitely a series to watch.
Which is nice.
More postings here over the next few days, including:
Death Magnetic
More horror books
Hay on Wye, and why I must never go there again
Chris Golden, and why he must never come here again
