The Next Ice Age …

… has landed in South Wales. We’ve had the harshest winter I can remember since I was eleven years old, and disruption aside, it’s been a lot of fun. Did a load of writing this morning – in fact, one of the most intense, most satisfying writing periods I’ve had in ages, made two hours feel like three days – and then I popped to the woods with my family and my daughter’s friend. Took a few snaps. Enjoy.

Here we go again … woke to four inches of fresh snow, the world looks beautiful, and I’m working for a couple of hours before heading to the woods with my family. Expect photo’s soon!

I didn’t have a very productive week last week – I did maybe 10,000 words on ECHO CITY FALLS, and a bit on a top-secret short story I’m working on (also had a killer idea for a YA novel, but there’s only so much time …) Most of this lack of productivity was down to the snow, which brought the country to a sliding halt. The family and I had a wonderful time, and I’m a firm believer in giving myself the day off for the kids to enjoy themselves. Really, it was for the kids. I didn’t throw a single snowball, or take a single sled trip down a hillside. Hope, not me.

And they’re saying we’re in for some more tomorrow! So after watching THE ESCAPIST and having an early night this evening, I’ll be getting back into the novel in the morning. I’m about to write a subterranean seduction scene. So there you are.

ECHO CITY FALLS

Just a quick update on the new fantasy novel I’m working on, ECHO CITY FALLS. This is a standalone novel, not a Noreela book, and I’m at the halfway stage (and any writer will tell you, that can sometimes be a difficult part of a book …)

I’ve had some difficult moments, but generally it’s going well, and I’m particularly pleased with the scene I wrote today in which a massively fat woman eats a bat. Oh yes. There are reasons, believe me … it wasn’t just that she was hungry.

More updates coming soon, including news concerning a couple of my books that have been under opton for a while.

Meantime … we’re waiting for more snow. Horrah! I see no one commented on my snowman, you must have all thought it was shite! So here’s hoping I’ll have another one to show you tomorrow.

Well the weather outside is frightful …

… but we don’t get it much, so the kids and I spent the morning making the most of it! Snowball fights, walks in the local woods with our monstrous mutt Blu, and then to end it all a ridiculous snowman.

Dan got cold and cried, but only after two hours doing his best to hit me in the face at just the right angle to get snow down my shirt. He perfected it almost immediately. Ellie put on a new set of clothes each time she went out and got cold and wet, so now our radiators have been smothered with wet garments, and our windows are steaming up.

Fantastic snowfall this morning. I love it. They say we might get some more later in the week … bring it on!
