I’m going to see Eddie Izzard! Yay! It’s not until November, but I managed to snag a couple of tickets for Cardiff CIA yesterday for me and the missus. Muchly looking forward to hearing stories of oil-drilling cats and other distinctly not normal stuff.
And this evening, I shall mostly be watching Sir David Attenborough talking about Darwin and his Origin of Species. Fundamental Christians need not attend.
First though, footbal training for my 5 year old, then a long walk in the park with the dog.
Sir David Attenborough is a bit of a hero of mine, and I think he’s one of the few people in the public eye who thoroughly deserves all the praise heaped upon him. He’s utterly passionate about nature and his role in revealing it to the viewers of his many, many fine TV programmes. He’s opened people’s eyes to the wonderful, varied, exotic, stupendous natural world around them, and he’s also campaigned tirelessly for the environment.
But he gets hate mail.
You know who from?
Fundamentalist Christians who ‘hate’ him for not crediting God in his nature programmes. He dares to mention the E word instead (that’s Evolution to most of us). It shouldn’t surprise me – it doesn’t surprise me that there are such narrow-minded and vindictive fools around – but it does sadden me.
We live in a wonderful world, but it only takes a minority to taint that wonder.
