Hallowe’en, and Proof that I’m a Big Scary Horror Writer

So, ten years ago today, I’ve just been reminded, was the Nervous convention in Cardiff, at which my second book Faith in the Flesh was being launched, along with my mate Gary Greenwood’s first novel The Dreaming Pool.  GO HERE to read all about it … Gary’s done a splendid write up about the day, with photos, newspaper interviews and lots of good memories that have got me all nostalgic, like.  My missus loooks all big with our first kiddie Ellie (born 2 months after these photos were taken), and we all look …. younger.  Aye.

Yesterday, to prove what a big hard scary horror writer I am, I had a steroid injection in my shoulder.  It’s been giving me grief for a year now, and it’s taken until now for positive treatment to be taken.  The doctor giving me the jab was very professional, very good, and I hardly felt the needle at all.  Felt the stuff injected – that was a bit odd.  She asked how I was, I stood and sauntered to the reception desk to make a follow-up appointment … and promptly started feeling all weird.  I ended up lying down again for ten minutes until the dizziness faded.  What a wimp.  Me and needles have never been good friends.

The doc put my mind at rest by saying, “Don’t worry, it’s always the big rugby players who end up fainting.”  I didn’t quite faint – not like those completely wimpy rugby players – but it was a close call.

Shoulder still buggered, but after a day ior two I’m told I should feel the benefit.  Here’s hoping.

So Happy Hallowe’en folks!  Just been out trick or treating with the kids, now they and the missus are off to a party at our neighbours.  I’ve got to stay behind to look after the dog from Hell …. (Who, when we were out just now, destroyed our kitchen).
