Adventures in Deepest Wales

March 30th, 2009 • Posted in Random Stuff |

Just arrived back from a writing adventure in a couple of cottages near Builth Wells.  Myself, Gary Greenwood, Adam Nevill, Sarah Pinborough, Paul Lewis and Paul Meloy spent a long weekend writing, eating, drinking, chatting, a bit more writing, and a bit more drinking. And some more eating, too.  We do a couple of these weekend each year and we always get loads of work done.  This time I worked on a proposal for a YA novel and started writing it, as well as an idea for a TV series pitch, and some website stuff (watch this space for a couple of new features coming soon).

The cottages were great, the local pub served nice food and Reverend James, and a fine weekend was had by all.

Now it’s back to ECHO CITY FALLS, which I have to deliver in one month …… so I may not be around for a while.

Fantasycon 2009

March 4th, 2009 • Posted in Random Stuff |

Fantasycon have announced their Guests of Honour for this year’s convention. A great line-up, eclectic and interesting.  Fantasycon is one of my favourite convenions, and I never miss it, even if I have to sell a limb to get there. I still have four … but who knows what the future may hold.

You know what I don’t see much at Fantasycon?  Americans.  I’ve spent years travelling over the water to US conventions (as have Mark Morris, Sarah Pinborough, Graham Joyce, Stephen Volk, Mark Samuels, Simon Clark, Gary Greenwood, Stuart Young, Stephen Jones etc etc etc).  I reckon I’ve been to about a dozen.  About time some of you buggers came over here!

Wild Wales, and looking back

November 27th, 2008 • Posted in Random Stuff |

Tomorrow I’m off into the wilds with a few fellow Welsh writers for a weekend of writing, beer, and good food.  Myself, Steve Lockley, Paul Lewis, Gary Greenwood, Steve Volk and Mike O’Driscoll will be doing a ‘Withnail and I’ here, except this won’t be a mistake.  So I’ll be out of touch until Monday, whereupon …

Monday is the second anniversary of my going full time as a writer.  Two whole years, and in that time I’ve done a quite amazing amount of writing, including 5 solo novels, three screenplays, three collaborative novels, some novellas and short stories … and other stuff.  Bloody hell.  Anyway, I’ll be blogging on Monday all about that, talking about what the last two years have been like and what I’m hoping the next two years will bring.

So please check back on Monday.  I might be tired, but we’ll have some fun.
