And ….. relax.

May 1st, 2009 • Posted in Random Stuff, Reviews & Interviews |

picture-028Yesterday I delivered my new novel ECHO CITY FALLS.  It’s a biggie, clocking in at over 500 pages and 160,000 words.  This last week I’ve been working 12 hour days  revising/editing/rewriting, and I slogged right up to the finishing post.  So, apologies if it’s been a bit quiet here, but now that book’s done (for now … until I get edit note from my wonderful editor Anne Groell) things will be a bit easier.

But only a bit!  There’s still plenty to do this month, including a couple of projects I can’t say too much about yet.  Well, I could tell you about them, but then I’d have to kill you all.  And as I don’t know a) who reads this blog, and b) where you all live, and even if I did it’d take me ages to visit you all, and considering the price of petrol nowadays, it’s a scandal, it really is … well, it’s best I day nothing.

Here’s a great review for THE MAP OF MOMENTS, which you really must all buy if you haven’t already.  Go on.  Away with you.

And I might have posted this already, but what the hell, it’s a fantastic review of FALLEN so take another look.

I’ll soon be undertaking a ‘Blog Tour’ to promote the paperback release of FALLEN and the hardback release of THE ISLAND, so watch this space for news, dates and other exciting stuff.

No new book covers at present, so here’s a picture of me and my dog Blu instead.

Right, have a great weekend.  I predict gardening, DIY, a meal out somewhere, and real ale in my future.

FALLEN – out now as a UK paperback

April 6th, 2009 • Posted in Book News |

fallen-wb-663

FALLEN hits the shelves today in the UK as a mass market paperback.  You can buy from your local bookshop, online from Amazon, or direct from the publisher.

FALLEN was chosen by Publishers Weekly as one of the top four fantasy, science fiction & horror novels published last year in the USA.  It received a starred review from Publishers Weekly, and SFX Magazine said:

‘If Lebbon continues writing Noreela stories to this high standard, the series could be as exciting as George RR Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire novels – definitely a series to watch – 4 stars’

If you need any more reason to buy it … how about my eternal gratitude and love?

It’s a really important book for me, and I’m keen to see it do well.  So spread the word.  If you’ve read it, please review it – or just mention it – on your blog, or Amazon, or message boards.  And if you know anyone you think might like it, please mention it to them.

Mucho thanks.

Two Years On

December 1st, 2008 • Posted in Random Stuff |

Two years ago today was my first day working as a full-time writer.  Leaving work to write for a living was a big decision, but definitely one of the best I’ve ever made, and through the downs as well as the ups I haven’t regretted it for a moment.  It seems a lot longer than two years ago that I last left Monmouthshire County Council’s dodgy old building (it’s effectively falling down), and looking at the amount I’ve written since then, perhaps there has been a time-warp thingy going on somewhere.  Here’s a rough list:

As well as those novels and novellas I’ve done several short stories, two screenplays (The Everlasting and The Dregs), and plenty of other stuff.  It does make me wonder how the hell I wrote so much when I was working, but the fact that I’m still working just as hard after two years is great.  I’ve still got plenty of work on … and a big THANKS is due to you discerning readers who continue to buy my books!

And on it goes …!  I wrote a novelette this weekend for a US market (sending it to the editor for consideration today), brainstormed a new screenplay with a good friend of mine, and this week it’s back to the Yukon to finish off book one of the Jack London series.

Many more announcements coming soon, including a new short story option.  So please do keep popping by, and in another year I hope the above list will be much, much longer.

Interzone goodness

November 21st, 2008 • Posted in Reviews & Interviews |

In the latest edition of the excellent Interzone magazine there’s a small interview with me, and fine reviews of Fallen, The Everlasting and The Reach of Children.  Interzone comes from TTA Press, the same folks who publish Black Static and Crimewave, and it’s essential viewing for any science fiction or fantasy fan.

Talking of The Reach of Children, I’ll soon be announcing how you can buy this book direct from me at much a reduced cost.  Watch this spot today or tomorrow for details.

David Gemmell Legend Awards for Fantasy

November 8th, 2008 • Posted in Book News |

For the first time next year, the David Gemmell Legend Award for Fantasy will be presented for the best fantasy novel of 2008.

Gemmell really was a legend, and his books and characters still command huge respect and admiration among readers.  I read Legend a long time ago, and I still have vivid memories of the book – its twists and turns, incredible character, and wonderful landscapes.

Fitting, then, that this new award honours him and his work.

There’s a list of nominess here. A long list, reflecting the many fine fantasy books published in 2008, and I’m proud and thrilled to see that FALLEN is there, among many other great books.

Voting opens December 26th.  So what else are you going to be doing on Boxing Day, otrher than feeling fat and bloated and watching Chitty Chitty Bang Bang?

Book Updates

November 6th, 2008 • Posted in Book News |

I thought I’d post an update on forthcoming book releases.  Where these are available for pre-order, I’ve posted an Amazon link, but ordering from your local bookstore is always good.

So here we go:

Bar None - sometimes soon, from Night Shade Books - my first original horror novel in over 18 months

The Map of Moments – January 2009 – with Christopher Golden, the second Novel of the Hidden Cities, from Bantam Spectra

Hellboy: The Fire Wolves – Dark Horse April 2009 – my second Hellboy novel, this time for the excellent Dark Horse

The Island - April 2009 – fourth novel in the award-winning Noreela series, from Bantam Spectra

You’ll also see Mind the Gap and Fallen released in mass market paperback format early next year, both by Bantam Spectra.

And as well as this, a limited edition of Mind the Gap from Cemetery Dance, and another book from them at some point. And there are other projects I can’t announce just yet, and a couple of announcement that are pending.

I’m also working on a crime novel. Oh yes.

More exciting announcements soon!
