It’s been a good couple of days. Yesterday, the postie rang the bell and threw me a parcel before Blu chased him down the road and chewed off his leg. In that parcel were two copies of The Mammoth Book of the Best of Best New Horror, the huge retrospective anthology collecting one story from each volume of Best New Horror published over the last twenty years.
My novella WHITE is in, frankly, stellar company. Clive Barker, Harlan Ellison, Neil Gaiman, Stephen King, Peter Straub, Ramsey Campbell … the list goes on. WHITE was the first story of mine that editor Stephen Jones ever bought, and I am so proud to see it included in this volume. It’s something of a milestone for me, as was WHITE’s first publication ten years ago.

The Mammoth Book of Best New Horror volume 20 arrived today, containing my story Falling Off the World, and also containing stories by Ramsey Campbell, Stephen King, Gary McMahon, Sarah Pinborough, Peter Crowther, Paul Finch, and many others.
It’s my fifth appearance in the series (previous stories include White, Remnants, Exorcising Angels and The Repulsion), and I’m also looking forward to seeing White reprinted again in the forthcoming The Best of Best New Horror, the 20th anniversary celebration.
Also today, the postie brought White Rabbit, the new album by Nathen Maxwell and the Original Bunny Gang. Nathen’s a member of one of my very favourite bands, Flogging Molly, so I took and chance on this, his new solo album. Sounding very good so far … quite different from Flogging Molly, but even after the first listen the talent is shining through. Nice one.
A day off from work today … visiting my family, then cooking a Thai green curry for dinner. Tomorrow, it’s back to work on The Cabin in the Woods.

I’m in the Mammoth Book of Best New Horror again this year (hoorah!) and there’s going to be the traditional Fantasycon launch on Saturday 19th September, at 3:00pm in the main bar. Free glass of wine to anyone who buys a copy!

I’m delighted to announce that my story Falling Off the World from the Second Humdrumming Book of Horror Stories will appear in the Mammoth Book of Best New Horror 20, edited by the esteemed Stephen Jones.
It’s my fifth time in Best New Horror, but the excitement was just as rich when I heard I was to appear in this landmark voume again. And this in a year when my novella White will appear in the The Very Best of Best New Horror from Earthling Publication! Time to celebrate, methinks …
